On June 1 2010, Brazillian company Petrobras were granted a 5 year exploratory license to mine oil and gas in the Raukumara Basin, East Coast, NZ - starting from a mere 4 km from the shoreline.

In light of the Gulf Of Mexico's environmental tradegy, this pro-mining attitude of our natural resources is short-sighted and driven only by money. There is a growing voice of opposition by the people of New Zealand.
