Pacific Curls is an exciting trio who have toured Europe, Australia, US and New Zealand. Pacific Curls teach a range of instruments from Taonga Puoro (Traditional Maori Instruments) such as Nguru, Koauau and Putorino and Ukulele, Percussion, Guitar and Vocals as well as traditional Maori and Scottish dance and song.

Pacific Curls offers an exciting range of school and public presentations of Maori, Pacific and Celtic origin appropriate for pre-school, primary, secondary and adult classes. With a wealth of touring experience and presentations, Pacific Curls offer intimate workshop based classes, inspiring imagination and creativity.

Workshops Offered

MAORI SONGS have a distinctive sound. Workshop participants will learn a number of songs in the Maori and Samoan language - a great workshop for lovers of pacific music, schools and choirs interested in expanding their repertoires.

MAORI DANCE - Learn a number of dances including, Kapa haka (traditional dance), action songs, body percussion dances and tititoria - a traditional Maori stick dance taught to children and adults alike. Safe and fun to learn this is a great workshop for all ages

POETRY IN MOTION - TAONGA PUORO - KOAUAU / NGURU / PUTORINO
(Maori flute workshops) - The traditional instruments of the Maori are evocative and moving. Their sounds are deeply steeped within Maori geneology. Participants will learn how tunes are played on these instruments and the families of natural sounds with which they are associated.

POI MAKING AND PERFORMANCE - Learn how to make and perform the beautiful poi - a traditional performance instrument of the Maori. The long poi is a beautiful and elegant performance instrument which utilizes our sense of balance and beauty. The short poi is a dynamic instrument that develops our awareness of rhythm and dexterity. As part of the workshop you will learn some songs and dances incorporating the poi.

GUITAR and UKULELE - All aspects of how to play the guitar and ukulele, from beginners to advanced.

SCOTTISH DANCE - learn some Celidh dancing to get your feet tapping and your heart dancing!
